Garlic
For overall health and disease prevention, I recommend that you consume at least a clove of garlic each day. While I'm a firm believer that raw is best you can get similar benefits from cooked garlic if you first crush or chop it 15 minutes before use. When garlic is peeled and chopped an enzyme called allinase begins a series of chemical reactions that create most of garlic's beneficial effects. Heating garlic whole prevents the chemical reactions from taking place, so if you're using garlic in cooking chop it first and give it a little reaction time. If you just can't stomach the "stinking rose," try Kyolic aged garlic extract. Most garlic supplements available in health food stores are worthless, but this is one product that lives up to its billing. ![]()
